India’s Retail Inflation Cools to 2.82% in May 2025, Lowest in Over 6 Years
India’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation dropped sharply to 2.82% in May 2025, marking the lowest level since February 2019, according to the National Statistical Office (NSO) data released on Wednesday. The drop from 3.16% in April was primarily fueled by a broad-based decline in food prices and a favourable base effect.
๐ Food Inflation Plunges to Near Zero
The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), which tracks retail food inflation, fell to 0.99% in May, down from 1.78% in April and 8.69% in May 2024. This is the lowest food inflation reading since October 2021.
