US Markets Wrap: Indices Close Lower, Few Stocks Hit 52-Week Highs



All three major US stock indices ended in the red today, with a handful of stocks still managing to touch new 52-week highs.

Dow Jones Slips Slightly

The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 108 points to settle at 42,319.74, marking a 0.25% decline. The index traded between a high of 42,600.80 and a low of 42,220.20 during the session. Despite today’s dip, the Dow remains up 9.09% year-to-date. Two Dow-listed stocks reached 52-week highs today.

Nasdaq Drops Sharply

The Nasdaq Composite saw a more significant decline, falling 162.04 points, or 0.83%, to close at 19,298.45. The index fluctuated between 19,610.51 and 19,226.22. Still, the Nasdaq has posted a robust 12.28% gain over the past year. Four Nasdaq stocks recorded 52-week highs.

S&P 500 Ends Lower, But Yearly Gain Holds

The S&P 500 closed the day at 5,939.30, down 31.51 points, or 0.53%. It touched an intraday high of 5,999.21 and a low of 5,922.88. The index is still up 1.03% year-to-date, and nine of its constituents reached new 52-week highs.
